Handymen in Chicago, IL: Google Visibility Snapshot (2026)

Published July 2026

What the 35 Chicago handyman listings we analyzed show about websites, reviews, and ratings — a city-level slice of SitePeek's 2026 study, with the sample caveats stated plainly.

Of the 35 handymen in Chicago, IL we analyzed in 2026, 37.1% had no website on their Google Business Profile, the median listing had 11 Google reviews, 40.0% had fewer than 10 reviews, and the mean rating was 4.8 stars. These are sample statistics from SitePeek's Google Places discovery pipeline — full methodology — not a census of the market.

What does the Chicago handyman sample show?

Between May and July 2026, SitePeek's business-discovery pipeline — built on the Google Places API — returned 35 listings for handymen in Chicago, Illinois. We analyzed each listing's website link, review count, and star rating, and compared the results against the 4,604-listing national sample from our 2026 Local Business Google Visibility Report. One caveat before the table: this is the sample our pipeline discovered, not a roster of every handyman business operating in Chicago. Read each number as a competitive read on the analyzed field, never as a universal market share.

Both columns describe analyzed samples — the 35 Chicago listings our pipeline discovered and the 4,604 listings in the national study — not every business in either market.

What this means if you run a handyman business in Chicago

Website coverage ran ahead of the national benchmark in this sample: 37.1% of the 35 analyzed listings had no site linked from their profile, versus 43.7% nationally. For an owner, that cuts the other way — most of the Chicago handymen we analyzed already give customers somewhere to land after the map result, so a listing without a website is the one that stands out, and not favorably.

The median listing in this sample had 11 Google reviews (the median across our full national study was 45), and 40.0% of the analyzed listings had fewer than 10 reviews (nationally: 21.0%). Review volume is thin across this sample — and that is the opportunity. When much of the analyzed field is still in single or low double digits, a business that simply asks every customer for a review can look like the established leader within months, not years. Few markets hand out a cheaper head start.

Ratings, as almost everywhere, cluster near the top: the analyzed listings averaged 4.8 stars against the 4.6-star mean in our national study. A good star average alone will not differentiate a handyman business in this field — review volume, recency, and whether the owner replies are where the listings we analyzed actually differed from one another.

Two habits move every number in the table above, in any market: give Google a website link so the profile has somewhere to send people, and ask for a review after every completed job. Neither costs money — and among the listings we analyzed, both remain unevenly adopted enough to be an edge.

How the Chicago handyman sample compares to our other data

We ran the same read on handymen in 3 of our city samples. Ranked by review depth, the Chicago sample lands 1st of 3: a median of 11 reviews among the listings we analyzed, versus 3 in Bakersfield, 2 in Fresno. Review count is the first number a customer weighs before they click, so that ordering is a rough map of how hard the reviews race runs in each place.

Methodology — what this sample is and is not.
  • Source: SitePeek's business-discovery pipeline, which enumerates local service businesses through the Google Places API by service category and city. Data collected May–July 2026.
  • Sample, not census: the 35 listings here are the handymen our pipeline discovered for Chicago, Illinois — not every handyman business in the city. Every figure on this page means "of the listings we analyzed," never a universal share of the Chicago market.
  • Parent study: this snapshot is a city-level slice of the SitePeek 2026 Local Business Google Visibility Report (4,604 listings across 325 cities), which documents the full method and its limits.
  • "No website" means no website URL was present on the business's Google Business Profile at discovery time. A business may own a site that is not linked from its listing.
